Rather than relying on pressure like resist ive touch screens , capac itive screens are more sensitive and accurate . These screens are usually made of glass that has been coated with a special material , such as ind ium tin oxide ( IT O ). When a person touches the screen , their electric field is detected and the location of the touch is then relayed to the device . Cap ac itive touch screens are the most common type of touch screen technology used in devices such as smartphones , tablets , and even car navigation systems .
